During the winter of 2013 to 2014 Penn State University installed new scoreboards at Beaver Stadium. Part of the project included the use of a large crane to reach inside the stadium to install the scoreboards. Although a crane pad was used there was still damage to the VIP Parking area. Hummer Turfgrass was brought in to rework the compacted soil, repair the Sand Grid Drainage System and install Big Roll sod. The parking lot was available for use several weeks after installation.
This was an unusual assignment in that this is actually a grass parking lot North of Beaver Stadium. Sometimes a “mud lot” and later graveled over, the concept here was to develop a grass surface with enough stability to park cars. With soil replacement and the Hummer Sand Grid Drainage System with enhanced base drainage, the field was installed in 2005 and from day one has performed beyond many peoples expectations.
